Robert D.W. Jackson

Sales & Marketing Industry of the Year Award

Title: Representative for the Newspaper Industry
Company: Hispanic & Afriean American Newspapers Netw.

“I am the Black Press,” Robert Jackson will confidently and convincingly tell you. And, his successful track record will confirm that bold boast. R.D.W., as he’s widely known and respected, doesn’t write and report the news; his rare and remarkable talent has been singularly focused on getting minority journalists’ and publishers paid.

During his 35 year career, RDW Jackson has emerged as the quintessential newspaper sales and marketing guru for minority publications across the nation. He is a seasoned and savvy advertising whiz. Before coming to Atlanta in 1992, Jackson honed his craft at the Los Angeles Sentinel, the largest Black newspaper in the West; and the Philadelphia Tribune, under the tutelage of the legendary publisher and advertising authority Bob Bogle, who captained America’s oldest Black newspaper.

Since then, R.D.W. has made money for and made a major difference in the fortunes of the Atlanta Voice, the Atlanta Daily World (whose C.A. Scott was the founder of the NNPA- the National Newspaper Publishers Association), the Mundo Hispanico and the La Vision newspapers.

His skillful salesmanship was instrumental in “bridging the gap” between Hispanics, Blacks and the mainstream media here in Atlanta. In fact, he was instrumental in making the mainstream media aware of the Hispanic market and one reason why the AJC purchased the Mundo Hispanico. R.D.W. Jackson has achieved an outstanding sales record and become an Atlanta personality as a result of his cross-cultural impact and influence.

His wit, guile, humor, swagger, persuasiveness, and persona have combined to make him one of Atlanta’s top-notch civic and charismatic Black Press pioneers and a positive, voice for them.
