Sonya Coston is a native of Atlanta, who has always had a passion and commitment to serve others and have a positive impact on her community.
Sonya began her professional career as an Airport Passenger Assistant for Delta Air Lines, Inc. in 1986. During her career at Delta, she served as a Communication & Information Services Clerk, SkyMiles Partner Liaison, Sr. Purchasing Buyer and in 2005 was promoted to Commodity Manager in Purchasing. Throughout her career at Delta, these positions afforded her the opportunity to make key strategic business decisions and have cross-functional organizational influence. Sonya retired from Delta Air Lines in 2008, after an amazing twenty-one-year career.
In 2008, Sonya accepted a position with the Chick-fil-A, Inc. Support Center in Supply Chain. When she joined Chick-fil-A, she was a Purchasing Sr. Buyer and was responsible for leading contractual product negotiations and supplier relationship management for approximately $10M in spend.
Sonya’s current role is a Sr. Franchisee Selection Lead in Field Operations Services. She provides strategic leadership and direction for Chick-fil-A’s Franchisee Selection process to assess potential candidates for Franchisee opportunities. She is a trusted advisor to handle sensitive and confidential information related to Franchisee details. Sonya’s contributions include oversees the selection process for 25-30+ new franchisee, and the selection of relocating and multi-restaurant Operators impacting an estimated $150M in annual sales.
She is also a liaison across cross-functional teams for both formal/informal project teams to ensure horizontal integration with business units. In this role, Sonya has been afforded the opportunity to positively impact and influence the lives of many young adults in their pursuit of their career journey.
Sonya has a combined thirty-six years of professional experience in Customer Service, Operations, Supply Chain and Talent Acquisition.
Sonya received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA.
Sonya has a passion for educating and shaping the lives of young people. She actively seeks opportunities to give back and serve in the community. Sonya serves as a Board Member for The Bridge Inc. non-profit, member of the FBI Citizens Alumni Association, member of Master Minded Women – nonprofit, a mentor with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, Chick-fil-A Scholar Mentor, Deaconess at Elizabeth Baptist Church and a volunteer with Chick-fil-A Community Programs.
Sonya enjoys spending time with her husband Bernie and family. She also enjoys traveling, running, and volunteering with organizations where she can help others.
